20th September - NEWS FOR FRIDAYS GAME
Obviously now that the Pies/Cats game is a sell out on Friday night, Channel 7 are showing the game live everywhere....  everywhere, that is except WA !!!!  We urge people to get in contact with Channel Seven Perth and state the case for showing the game live, especially as on of the top bods from the station appeared on 6PR last Friday and stated that no matter whether who went through from last weeks game, this weeks game WILL be shown live due to contract obligations. It appears that Channel 7 only honour their obligations whilst the Eagles are still in the competition. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE email Channel Seven at programs@7perth.com.au or call them on 9344-0777 and complain, complain, complain. The squeakiest door gets the most oil so the more of us that contact them, the more chance we'll have of getting it live. Good Luck...

Obviously is this does work the timings for the function would be moved an hour forward, i.e. function starting at 4.30pm, game starting at 5.30pm. Either way we hope to see everyone there on the day, our biggest day since 2003 !!!

18th September - R.I.P. LEN THOMPSON 1947-2007
It is with great sadness that we annouce the passing of Magpie Legend and former Brownlow winner Len Thompson. Len died this morning at is home from a heart attack. The Western Magpies would like to pass on their sympathies to Len's family.

17th September - A PIE IN THE HOUSE OF PAIN (HERALD SUN ARTICLE)
In todays Herald Sun, Journalist Terry Brown who flew over exclusively to speak with the Western Magpies and report on the game has an article all about what it was like sitting amongst the Collingwood Cheer Squad on Friday night. It is a brilliant piece of writing and I urge you all to go to this link and read the story. I'm sure you'll find it as enjoyable as myself !!!!

16th September - PIES DOWN EAGLES - WHAT A GAME !!!!!!
A fantastic night at Subiaco on Firday saw the Pies end Wet Toasts season after beating them 93-74 after extra time. It was a fantasic game and a fantastic day, which all started when the Magpie Army took over the VIC hotel (normally a Weagles haunt), it was great to see Eagles fans walk in.. look around see the place dominated by Black and White and then walk straight back out again. The "Where's Benny" sign was popular again with thousands of Weagles fans as it came out while I walked the boundary line after banner. However I think the sign that got the most publicity was my "Such is Life" sign which was broadcast for all to see on Channel 7 at the end of the game. Well done to everyone guys, we were loud and proud and we got the boys over the line, special Kudos goes out to Steve Pang and co. for their great DIIIIIDAK sign !!!!!  The photo below was on the back page of the Herald Sun today and I think it says it all......    BRING ON THE PUSSIES !!!!!

Mei, Myself, Kathy, Joffa, Rose and Courtney at the final siren.

13th September - PIES FLIGHT AND TRAINING TIMES !!!!!!
Collingwood will fly in today (Thursday) at 12.55pm, they will then be training at Subiaco Oval at 4.30pm. This WILL be an open training session and we have been asked by the club to get as many Collingwood Supporters down there as possible. So come along today to see the guys, and make sure you wear your Collingwood gear to show the guys just who the most supported team in WA really is !!!!  Go Pies !!!

12th September - PRE-GAME DRINKS AT THE VIC HOTEL!!!!!!
As said before we encourage all the Pies fans to come along to the Vic Hotel at 226 Hay Street on Friday arvo from 3pm onwards in the main bar. The committee members will all be there along with members from the Cheer Squad. Everyone is welcome (as long as you are wearing Black and White of course). For our interstate visitors (and our country members) who may not know where the Vic Hotel is, Please see the Map below. Its a 2 minute walk from Subiaco Oval, and not far from Leederville Train Station.  A printable version can be downloaded here.

10th September - PIES FANS TO MEET UP AT THE VIC ON FRIDAY !!!!!!
All Pies fans that are going to the game Friday night, the Western Magpies will all be meeting up at the VIC Hotel on Hay Street before the game. We encourage all Collingwood supporters to do likewise, lets turn that Pub into a Magpie stronghold !!! We will all be at the VIC from around 3pm onwards (What better Hotel for Pies fans to meet up at eh... The VIC !!!). So everyone, meet up at the main bar in the VIC and we can have a few coldies before the game. As usual just contact a committee member if you require more info.

Training will be held at Subiaco Oval from 4.30pm on Thursday 13th September. Collingwood have still yet to confirm their flight details but I would presume that they will be flying in on the 12pm (ish) Qantas flight from Melbourne on the Thursday. More details as they are known.

9th September - FINALS FEVER PART 2 !!! THE PIES ARE COMING TO PERTH !!!!!!
Following last nights fantastic 38 point win over Sydney, The Pies have earned a semi final matchup against the Eagles at Subiaco this Friday night. We have some very important ticket information with regards to this game. Currently the Western Magpies have not been allocated any tickets for this game, however the Committee are working on this and will be in contact with the club first thing Monday morning, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep an eye on this website, because as soon as we know something it will be posted on here.

In the meantime, tickets will go on sale from Tickmaster tomorrow morning (Monday) from 9am FOR COLLINGWOOD MEMBERS ONLY. Collingwood members will be able to purchase 1 ticket per membership, with a max of 8 tickets purchased in 1 transaction. The tickets will be priced between $51.90 and $66.00 depending on where they are seated. People buying tickets from Ticketmaster please ensure you ask for tickets  IN THE COLLINGWOOD ALLOCATION to ensure you will be sitting with Collingwood supporters and not uneducated moronic Eagles supporters. For non Collingwood members the rest of the tickets will go on sale to the General Public from 9am on WEDNESDAY morning.

As mentioned before, The Western Magpies WILL be in contact with the club on Monday, but in the event that we have no success in acquiring tickets via them, we urge people to ensure that they look into the above means to get tickets.

Also the Western Magpies would like to thank everyone who came down to the Quinn last night and made our first finals function of 2007 such a great success. Over a 150 Magpie mad fans came down and cheered the boys on to a rousing victory. Congratulations go out to all our Major Raffle winners, especially Percy Dias who won the Signed and Framed 2007 jumper and Matt Douse who won the Signed and Framed Dale Thomas print. Both guys have been Die-Hard Western Magpies members since our inception and it was great to see them finally win something in the raffles.

Bring on next week and Bring on the Eagles...... Guess what...  My "Wheres Benny" sign can now come out of retirement....  look for some new writing on the back of it though !!!!

2nd September - FINALS FEVER !!! Pies /Swans LIVE at the Quinn on Saturday
Next weekend sees the first game in our finals run that will hopefully take us all the way through September to the Grand Final. On Saturday the Pies will take on the Swans at the MCG. The game will be LIVE at the Mighty Quinn from 5pm. The Western Magpies will be holding what is hopefully the first of many finals functions. Also at 3 quarter time in Saturday nights game the Major Raffle will be drawn (which will give anyone who hasn't already purchased tickets a chance to buy some beforehand) and with some great prizes up for grabs everyone should come along and buy at least one !!!!

Hoping to see everyone there on the day, if you have any questions regarding the function then contact a committee member.

21st August - Pies /Swans Function at the Quinn this Saturday !!!
Don't forget guys the Pies /Swans function will be shown at the Quinn on Saturday night, so make sure to come along to cheer the boys home to a good win and cement our spot in the 8 (there is still a chance that we could miss out). The Function will start at 6pm with the game starting at 6.30pm. There will be a raffle on the night, plus we will also be selling tickets to our Major Raffle, which will be drawn at the end of the season. Hope to see you all there on the night !!!!

6th August - Pies down Blues, Auction a great success !!!
A big thank you to everyone that made it down to the Mighty Quinn to firstly see the Pies get up over the Blues and to then take part in the Western Magpies Annual Auction. The Auction was a great success with all the items fetching amazing bids. Below are the photos of the winning bidders with the spoils of their work. Well done everyone.

30th July - Western Magpies Annual Auction THIS SATURDAY !!!
Its time once again for the Western Magpies annual auction. The auction will take place this Saturday following the function for the Magpies Round 18 game versus Carlton. There are some fantastic items up for auction this year, Those items include, A Signed Dale Thomas Jumper, A signed 2007 team jumper (signed by the whole squad), A signed 2007 Football (signed by the whole squad), A signed and framed Wayne Richardson Print and a Signed and framed Collingwood Logo (Signed by the whole team). I'm sure you'll agree that these are some great items and would make a fantastic addition to anyones games room or bar. Please note that all items must be paid for on the day either by cheque or cash (unfortunately we do not have credit card facilities). There is an ATM located at the Mighty Quinn though so you will be able to draw the cash out from there. So save all your pennies and come down to the Quinn this Saturday to firstly watch the Pies smash the Bluebaggers and then to have a chance at bidding on one of these fantastic pieces of Collingwood memorabilia. The function starts at 12pm, with the game starting at 12.10pm, The auction will follow immediately afterwards. We look forward to seeing everyone there on the day.

We will also be selling tickets for our end of season Major raffle at this function, again there are some great prizes up for grabs and tickets are only $3 each. Keep an eye out for the committee members as they come around selling the tickets on Saturday. Remember you gotta be in it to win it !!!!! See you all on Saturday !!!!!

23rd July - Pies screwed again by local TV in WA !!!
Once again Collingwood supporters in WA have been screwed over by the AFL, Channel 7 and Channel 10 as Saturdays clash between the Pies and Brisbane is not being televised until 8pm on Channel 10. The game is actually on at 5pm but due to this pathetic deal Channel 10 are showing the Freo / Cats clash, delayed !!! While FOXTEL show it live. How pathetic is that.... Unfortunately because of this it does not look like our scheduled function at the Quinn for the Brisbane game on Saturday will take place. As with the game starting so late the turnout will not be great (if anyone turned up at all), plus we would have to be located on the back room as the band will be on by this time.  Now looking at the rest of the fixtures for the rest of the year we should NOT have this problem again so our next function (Carlton) and all other functions following this will all be going ahead as scheduled.  We apologise for this but once again its thanks to the wonderful decision of Channel 10 and their money hungry pimp the AFL !!!!

On a lighter note, it appears I had my picture taken while abusing the boundary umpire in the game against Geelong a couple of weeks ago.....  here's the photo as it appears on the CFC website.

See if you can spot me.........

18th July - NEWS JUST IN - ESSENDON GAME WILL NOT BE LIVE AT THE QUINN THIS WEEKEND !!!
Unfortunately, The Quinn will not be able to get the Pies game live this weekend. Therefore we will not be holding a function this weekend. The Western Magpies and Mighty Quinn apologise for this inconvenience, but it appears that Imparja found out we were getting the games live and threatened the Quinn with a $60,000 fine. We are not sure how Imparja found out, but this unfortunate event will mean that we will only be holding functions when the game is live on local TV or FOXTEL. We know it sucks, but we completely agree with the Quinns stance on this and they have our full backing as a committee.  It is just another one of the joys of living in WA I'm afraid.  Once again our apologies, our next function will be the following weekend for the Brisbane game (Next Saturday night).

17th July - I'm Baaaaaack !!! - Pies / Bombers game LIVE at the Quinn this weekend !!!
Ah back from Melbourne, good to see the Pies live and in the flesh for three games, glad we got to see one win !!!! Anyway now I'm back I need to let you all know that this weekends game versus Essendon will be shown LIVE at the Mighty Quinn. Once again this will be the only place in Perth you can watch the Pies play LIVE. So come down to the Quinn as early as you can to guarantee a good seat, remember NO RESERVATIONS will be taken by the Quinn so its strictly on a first in best dressed effort. The Committee should be there from around 11am onwards and myself and Mei will be there for our first function back at the Quinn fresh from our break. We hope to see everyone there to watch the Pies spank the bombers and get our season back on track.

29th June - I'm in Melbourne for Two Weeks !!! Woohoo !!!
Myself and Mei fly out to Melbourne this arvo so the website won't be getting updated while I'm over there (unless I get a chance to pop into an internet cafe or something). Anyway because of this I have added our next two functions into the Next Function section of the website. We hope to see everyone at the Quinn for both the St Kilda and Geelong games, both functions are Saturday arvo games so the functions will start at 11.30am with the games starting at 12.10pm. Keep an eye out for Mei and me behind the goals, we'll give y'all a wave !!!!!  See you all when we get back !!!!

19th June - Pies / Sydney game will be shown LIVE at the Quinn this Saturday!!!
Once again the only place to see the Pies live next weekend will be at the Mighty Quinn, The Pies will take on Sydney in the annual blockbuster at Tesltra Stadium. The Function will start at 4.30pm with the game starting at 5pm. We hope to see everyone there to cheer the boys to a great win !!!

4th June - Great win on Friday night, Pies game at the Quinn next Monday !!!
A massive, huge, gigantic thank you to everyone that came along to the Quinn last Friday night to watch the Pies sink the Dockers. Even though the game wasn't televised live we still saw more than 50 people turn up to watch the game and cheer the boys home to a fantastic win over the under-achievers in purple. It was great to see so many faces down there and the cheering outdid the band, so well done everyone !!! A superb win that see's us move to 4th on the ladder. We hope everyone that came along to the function had a great time (even the lone dockers fan seemed to enjoy himself.. onya mate... you were a good sport !!)

Next Monday sees the Pies take on the Dees in the traditional Queens Birthday game. Now obviously this game is not an official function as it is not a public holiday here in Perth, but there WILL be committee members at the Quinn for the game (namely myself, Mei, Danni, Pete and Colleen) as we have all either taken holidays or pre-empted sickness for that day. So if you are lucky enough to get the day off of work of feel a strange illness coming on feel free to come along to the Quinn and cheer the boys on (there is no better cure for Flu than coming down to the Quinn having a beer and watching the Pies thump the Dees !!!!). We hope to see you all there on the day !!!!

23rd May - We're STILL waiting on Membership Packs !!! GRRRRRRRRRRR !!!
Yeah thats right, we are STILL waiting for our bloody membership packs to be sent to us from Collingwood. Apparently it has something to do with all the other interstate supporter groups not getting their numbers into the club quickly enough (thats what we are being told anyway). I dunno about that, but I do it its bloody annoying and that we are trying our absolute hardest to get these packs through as quickly as humanly possible. We are as frustrated as you all are, but please please please bear with us.... we ARE trying our hardest to get these things through !!!

This Saturday see our next function at the Quinn as the Pies take on the Lions. The function will start at 4.30pm with the game starting at 5.10pm, please come down and make yourself heard as we all cheer the Pies on to a win over the old enemy. We need the win to bounce back from the disappointment of last Sundays game against the Doggies. Also make you that you tune into 90.5FM this Saturday morning at 10am for Magpie Radio as we have arranged a very special (and very apt) guest for this weeks show.... can you guess who it might be.......

We hope to see you all at the Quinn this Saturday night....... !!!!

1st May - Successful function on ANZAC Day, Pies / Crows game LIVE this Saturday night !!!
Thanks to everyone that came along to our ANZAC day function last Wednesday to see the Pies defeat the Bombers by 16 points. Over 200 people cam down to the Quinn and enjoyed the day, We hope you all had a great time. Keep an eye on the website as some photos of the day will appear here soon. Thanks to the Mighty Quinn and Wizard for making the day so successful. This weekend see's the Pies take on Adelaide on Saturday night. We will be getting the game LIVE at the mighty Quinn, so once again the Quinn is the only place you will be able to see the game live (its only being shown delayed on Channel 10). The function will start at 5pm and the game will start at 5.30pm. I will send an email out to all our members as per usual to inform them of the function. We hope to see you all there on the day.

17th April - "Unofficial" Function this Saturday at the Quinn - Round 4 Pies V Port !!!
There will be Committee members at the Quinn this Saturday (21st April) to watch the Pies / Port game, if anyone wants to come along and cheers the boys on then feel free to come along. This is an "unofficial" function so there will not be a raffle etc. but it is a chance to get together with other Pies fans and watch the game. The game starts at 12.10pm hope to see y'all there !!!

11th April - The Famous "Wheres Benny" Sign !!!
In case anyone actually missed the sign on Saturday, here it is.... The "Where's Benny" sign that got half of Subiaco Booing !!!  I'm sure you'll all agree that it wasn't imflamatory at all was it !!!!!!!  Look out for more photos to be added soon...  including the equally famous "Taxi for Kerr" sign !!!

Courtney and Kathy from the Cheersquad with little ole me holding the famous sign.

10th April - Pies unlucky at Subi - Go down to Wet Toast by 12 points !!!
A bunch of fans that don't cheer for their team until the end of the game, a free kick count of 28 to 15 in favour of the Weagles, A team that had to pump chants through a tannoy system because their own fans were so quiet, a team whose fans assualted a 55 year old Collingwood supporter whilst the police looked on and did NOTHING !!! These were just some of the things that happened on Saturday night as I once again had the misfortune to have to see a bunch on uneducated hairless apes (which could also be referred to as Eagles fans) act in the manner which we have become so accustomed. Once more did they abuse us and the cheersquad as we walked around the boundary to get to our seats after holding up the banner...  I did however get them back for the abuse as I pulled out a wonderful "Where's Benny" sign and held it up to everyone as I walked around the boundary... the abuse turned into boo's and soon almost 20,000 of the chardonnay set were booing my little sign. Then onto the security guard on the boundary line who would not let the cheersquad put the floggers on the ground because they "Covered up the advertising" and when I mentioned to them that the Eagles cheer squad was doing the same thing was told "Thats different though". Then the guy from Subiaco that came up to us and told us we could not stand up and cheer because some Wet Toast fans were complaining that they couldn't see (despite the fact that we were sitting in a Collingwood area !!!). Then the idiot turned around and told us that we were not allowed to use the floggers when the Eagles were kicking for goal because it would "Put them Off !!!", to which I responded "thats the whole point you dumbass !!!!!". I can safely say (and I am sure there are many people who would agree with me after the way we were treated by Subiaco on Saturday night)......   GET STUFFED SUBIACO OVAL AND GET STUFFED THE UNEDUCATED MORONS THAT BELIEVE THEMSELVES TO BE FOOTBALL FANS... Its bad enough having a drug culture at your club, let alone having a culture for violence as well.

Onto happier things though, I would like to personally thank the members of the Collingwood Cheersquad who came over and added their voices and chants to the Magpie Army... We were making more noise than the Wet Toast fans... hence the Tannoy system to try to drown us out !!! We hope you all had a good time in Perth. The game was disappointing in the end, if we had kicked straighter and not made so many skill errors that game would have been ours... Three posters and one miss from directly in front, and thats just the tip of the iceberg...  How protected is Chris Judd....  I mean you only had to look at him funny and he would be given a free kick, whereas we couldn't buy a freekick if we tried. Still we can't blame the game on the Free Kick count, we lost the game because of errors at the end of the day..  the same a last year... not a game that Wet Toast won... a game that Collingwood lost !!!! We had the Eagles scared and rightly so... if thats the best they can do, then all the Free kicks in the world aren't gonna get them to the Grand Final again.....  Well done to the boys for putting on such a brave fight in the "House of Meth".

This Friday sees the Pies take on Richmond and the Western Magpies will be holding a function at the Mighty Quinn for this game. The function will start at 8.00pm and the game will start at 8.30pm. We hope to see you all there !!!!!

6th April - West Coast game will be televised at the Mighty Quinn !!!
For those of you who weren't able to get a ticket to Saturdays game versus the Weagles, the game will be televised live at the Mighty Quinn, there will be other Pies fans heading down to watch the game, so if you can't get to the game do the next best thing.. Head to Collingwoods home here in Perth and cheer the boys on to a historic win !!!

4th April - Tickets for West Coast Game - SOLD OUT !!!
All of the tickets that the Western Magpies had for the West Coast game this weekend have now sold out. 26th March - There WILL be a function for Round 1, Pies-Roos game LIVE at the Mighty Quinn this Saturday !!!

Well good news, the game WILL be televised LIVE at the Mighty Quinn on Saturday and therefore we WILL be holding a function. The game will start at 12pm and our function will start at 11.30am. Come along, watch the game live, have a great meal, a great drink and socialise with other Western Magpies members as we cheer the boys on.   Hoping to see you there !!

Remember this will be the ONLY place you can see the game live this weekend, so if your serious about your football and serious about Collingwood, then the place to be on Saturday arvo is The Mighty Quinn !!!

The show also has a new sponsor, Wizard Home Loans have proudly agreed to sponsor the show for 2007. So remember to tune into 90.5FM this Saturday morning, you can listen to the show live here.

11th March - Very important information regarding Round 2 and tickets for the Eagles game...
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have been informed by the Collingwood Football Club that the Round 2 function and game ticket package being sold through the Western Magpies and Collingwood, is no longer available. Anyone who had their name down on the Western Magpies list, will be contacted by the club and informed as to what is going on.

Please be patient with this, as we have only just been informed of this situation.  Once we find out any information, it will be updated as soon as possible. Please understand that this situation is not the fault of either the Western Magpies or the Collingwood Football Club, it has all been due to West Coast and their Football Department.

9th March - Rocca in for Practice match versus Swans, Rusling out till Round 16...
Good news and bad news for Pies fans, First the good news, Rocca will be playing in the practice match against the Swans at Narranda tonight. This will be his first game since the loss to the Bulldogs last year. Unfortunately this good news has been overshadowed by the bad news that Sean Rusling will be out till at least round 16 after injuring his shoulder in the Williamstown game last weekend. He will have to undergo a shoulder reconstruction and looks likely to miss at least 3-4 months of football. Well its not all bad news though Magpie fans because on a lighter note, it looks like the Pies have found a replacement to fill in during his long recovery. The new player was put through a rigourous training session today and when asked if he would like to play for the Pies said "The pies. I can be a pie. I like pies''  an exclusive picture from the training session below !!!!

6th March - Pies thump Saints by 48 points 100-52...
A great performance for the Pies on Friday night saw them convincingly beat St Kilda 100 to 52. Josh Fraser led the goal kickers banging home 4 goals, while Dale Thomas, Travis Cloke and Heath Shaw all kicked doubles. The game was marred by injuries to both Paul Medhurst and Brad Dick (The latter being taken out by Stephen Baker 35 metres behind play... funnily enough... no report). Both players were having great games too, Medhurst left in the first quarter with an injured foot (bruised in-step), While Dick left just before half time after the behind play hit with a leg injury. Hopefully both will be okay and ready for round 1, More news as it becomes clearer.  Next week see's the Pies once again take on Sydney in country NSW.

26th February - First function at the Quinn sees Pies lose to Roos 117-66...
We had our first function of the 2007 season on Friday night at the Quinn and despite the game not being televised live had a good turnout. Thanks to everyone that came along and made the atmosphere in the Quinn Collingwood Loud and Collingwood Proud. Unfortunately the result didn't exactly go our way with the depleted Pies going down 117-66. However the game wasn't exactly important and I get the impression the lads were only treating it as a hitout (You could pretty much tell that from Micks face in the coaching box). The one downside of the game was Haroldinios rib injury in which he slightly punctured a lung and was taken to hospital. However he has recovered okay from it and should be back playing in a couple of weeks. There were certainly some good signs from the Pies and the performances of a few players were exceptional, players including Dale Thomas, Pendles and big Travis Cloke all had good games, while Rhyce Shaw also had a good game (although made a couple of mistakes, from trying to hard). Good things look like coming from Paul Medhurst and Chris Bryan too. So its all looking good for 2007.

The scheduling has also changed for the rest of the NAB cup, The Pies are no longer coming over here to play the Eagles this weekend, they are instead playing St Kilda at Princes Park, whereas Essendon make the trip across the continent to take on Wet Toast. Disappointing I know, but in a way I think that can only be a good thing.... I mean its a long way to travel for a scratch match, Still we'll be here in Round Two and if you haven't put your name down for Tickets for the Eagles clash then contact Danni as soon as possible to register your interest. We can only reserve tickets for Western Magpies members and it is only one ticket per member, so if you haven't signed up yet, there is no better time to do so.

Finally we are thinking of holding a function at the Quinn for the NAB Cup final, just as a final get together for everyone before the season starts proper, more on this if it happens.

19th February - Family Day, A success... Pies go down by 15...
A big thank you to everyone who came up to King Park yesterday for the Western Magpies Sign up and Family day. The day was a great success with over 70 people coming down to enjoy the fun and festivities (not to mention the great sausage sizzle). I t was great to see plenty of new faces there as well as some very familiar faces too. Another big thank you must also go out to our new sponsors Meat Lovers Paradise for supplying the great sausages that eveyone enjoyed so much. The butchery is just across the road from the Mighty Quinn, so give them a try. I will be posting some pictures of the Family Day in the next few days, so stay tuned.

In other news the Pies went down to the Swans on Friday night 66-51 in a practice match at North Sydney Oval. Standouts for the Pies were Travis Cloke who kicked three goals (and missed two sitters apparently), Martin Clarke, Shannon Cox and Harry O'Brien. The Swans were pushed hard by the Pies for the whole game. The Pies next hit out will be against the Kangaroos on Friday in Round 1 of the NAB cup. The game is being televised on Channel 7 at 8.30pm, so the Western Magpies will be holding their first function of the year at the Mighty Quinn this Friday at 8pm. We hope to see everyone there, come down and sample the great beer, great food and great hospitality of the Mighty Quinn... not to mention cheer the Pies onto a great win.

Finally in the unlikely event that the Pies go down to the Roo's on Friday, they will have to travel over here to play the loser of the Shockers / Wet Toast game up in Joondalup. More on that IF it happens....

16th February - Pies take on Swans in Practice match tonight...

Expected to play for the first time in Black and White will be Paul Medhurst and Irish Rookie Martin Clarke. A few of the new draftees are also expected to play. Nathan Buckley, Holland, Didak, Rocca and Licca are amongst the senior players being rested, while Scott Burns and Shane Wakelin will play. News of the result as soon as I have it.

5th November - International Rules function CANCELLED...
Unfortunately due to Channel 10 deciding not to televise tonights International Rules game live, we have had to cancel the function at the Mighty Quinn tonight. Apologies to everyone.

4th November - Australia - Ireland game televised live at the Mighty Quinn this Sunday night...
The second and deciding International Rules game is being televised LIVE at the Mighty Quinn this Sunday night, The Quinn has got an extended license to televise the game. The will be some committee members at the Quinn on Sunday night, myself included, so come along and cheer the Aussies (or the Irish, whichever takes your fancy) home. If you are coming down to watch the game though you will need to be inside the Quinn by 10pm as no-one will be let into the bar after that, the game itself starts at 10.30pm. 18th October - AGM date announced, Latest Newsletter sent out...
You have probably all seen the news above that the date for the Western Magpies AGM has been announced and it will take place on Sunday 29th October at 12pm at the Mighty Quinn Tavern on Wanneroo road, we hope to see everyone down there to attend and try out the Mighty Quinns hospitality. In other news the latest newsletter has been completed (well done Mei) and was sent out last night, so they should be with you all in the next couple of days.

19th September - Big news !!!!....
I promised you all some big news, well I can now deliever on that promise. It probably wasn't the best kept secret that we were looking at moving venues for the 2007 season, well after some tireless work by the committee, trying out different venues (then sobering up and trying some more) we have found a venue for next season. Drum roll Please.............

The Mighty Quinn Tavern at 112 Wanneroo Road, Yokine. We have been in talks with the management at the Mighty Quinn and they are more than happy to have us along there. They have some of the best prices is Perth when it comes to Food and Drink and they have also promised us that they will be able to provide live (albeit with a 20 minute delay) Friday night games as the Tavern has WIN and Imparja channels hooked up. We will have more news soon, However we will be holding our AGM at the Mighty Quinn so that members can come along and try the facilities out for themselves. I'm sure you will all find them to be as great as we did....

We still have not confirmed a date for the AGM but as soon as do we will be letting all members know. (It will be in the next newsletter). So things are moving onwards and upwards for the Western Magpies as we say goodbye to the Hyde Park hotel and say a big Hello to the Mighty Quinn Tavern !!!!! We would also like to thank the Hyde Park Hotel for their help over the past two years that we have been there.

On a final note, lets see everyone get behind the Adelaide Crows this weekend.... in the hope that they can knock off Wet Toast and shut the Chardonnay Set up... The Eagles end of season trip is already booked..... they leave Adelaide Airport at 4pm (wst) on Saturday....... apparently they are heading for Columbia (a few players have "uncles" over there allegedly)  The Dockers have also booked their end of season trip..... They're off to Rottnest !!!!

12th September - A big thank you to all our members and sponsors....
Well the season has ended with the Pies going down to the Doggies by 41 points, are we Disappointed.. well yes we are... but should we disheartened... of course not, our season has been a success in you take into consideration where we have finished in our previous two seasons.. 15th last year, 13th the year before. Who knows what next year could bring... hopefully a flag in 2007 !!!

At this point I want to thank all our members for their efforts over the season, Many of you have made it down to the Hyde Park to our functions and the atmosphere you have created there has been unbelieveable. The Western Magpies are nothing without its members so a huge thank you goes out to each and every one of you. You can expect bigger and better things from the Western Magpies next year, we are already in the process of designing some new merchandise and it will be ready for the beginning of next season. Not only that we will have some big news in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned to the website and keep your eyes peeled.

Another big thank you should go out to our sponsors who have provided us with some great raffle prizes throughout the season and some fantastic support. Thanks to all of you and we hope to see you all back on board  next year. If you are interested in sponsoring the Western Magpies for next season then please contact Pete Matheson.

Our AGM will be held in the next few weeks, full details will be released in our next newsletter when it is sent out in a couple of weeks time. We hope to see plenty of people there.

Finally I want to say a big thank you to everyone on the Western Magpies committee for all their hard work during the season (and off-season). Its a lot of graft running a supporter group but the guys on the committee have done a fantastic job of pulling it all together, I would especially like to thank Mei, for her work on the newsletters, Krystal for keeping the books up to date, Colleen for organising the raffles, Danni for her tireless efforts in contacting the club, Pete for his work with the sponsors and Dave for doing all the presidential stuff.. Well done guys !!!! great work !!!!

10th September - Important Info for the Eagles game... (If we come over).
Sheesh... The Dockers kept their side of the bargain by losing to the Crows....  (The Violet Crumbles)... but the bloody Eagles.... you can't rely on them to do anything right losing to the Swans by a point. Well anyway, because of the bloody Eagles if we beat the Doggies today we will be travelling over to Perth to take on the Eagles at Subi. Now unfortunately we are unable to get tickets for this game, all tickets must be purchased through the club or Ticketmaster, with Social club members and above getting the first shot at the tickets. 3000 tickets will then go on sale to the general public on Wednesday. So I have to re-iterate....   THE WESTERN MAGPIES ARE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE TICKETS FOR THIS GAME !!!!! The club have not provided us with any tickets. The committee are bracing themselves for the influx of phonecalls that will no doubt come in, but the answer will remain the same. The only way to get tickets for the big game will be to get lucky on Tickmaster or be a Social Club member (or above) and get lucky in the Ballot. Anyway I don't want to get too far ahead of myself..... We have to beat the Doggies first.... Which I think we should do, my tip... Pies by 31.

6th September - A laymans guide to the Finals...
Okay after pondering over the finals schedule I think I have finally worked out exactly who it is we could be playing on our road to the flag this year. Right first off, we beat the Bulldogs we will then play the loser of the Swans / Wet Toast game in Semi Final 1. If we win that we will play the winner of Semi Final 2, which will be the loser of the Adelaide / Freo game versus the winner of The Dees/Saints game. If we win that then we will play the winner of the Adelaide / Freo game.  Win that one and we are into the Grand Final.... Clear as mud ??? It looks something like this :-

1. WCE v SYD       2. COL v WB           3. ADL  v  FREO      4. STK  v  MEL

5. Loser Game 1 v Winner Game 2       6. Loser Game 3 v Winner Game 4

7. Winner Game 3 v Winner Game 5        8. Winner Game 1 v Winner Game 6

GF. Winner Game 7  v  Winner Game 8

So really its pretty straight forward, it also means that if Freo lose to Adelaide and Wet Toast beat Sydney, then it could set up a Freo / Wet Toast Prelim... in which Freo would knock out Wet Toast get through to the GF only to be beaten by us on the day !!! Whatever happens I'm sure you'll agree it looks like a great finals series. I think the other important thing to realise is that it is possible for us to get to the GF without us having to travel over here.... In which case we would meet a WA team in the Final and that would make winning the flag all the more sweeter !!!!

4th September
A good win for the lads yesterday arvo, and a fantastic 4th quarter performance (the highest scoring quarter of the season.. for any team) so the Pies get over the Roos 139-71. That performance meant that we leap frogged the Saints to finish 5th on the ladder and set up up an Elimination Final at the MCG next Sunday against the Bulldogs. Naturally this means that we shall be having a function next Sunday at the Hyde Park hotel so we hope to see eveyone there on the day to cheer the boys on. The winner of that game will play the loser of the Swans / Wet Toast clash, which obviously means that we could be travelling over to either Sydney or Perth if and when we knock off the Doggies. I personally would prefer to travel to Sydney rather than come over here but could not bring myself to cheer for West Coast for any reason, still all will become clear this time next week. Its great to be back in the finals and just think... we are only four games away from winning the flag !!!! Go the Pies !!!!

29th August
I'm never one to say "I told you so" but..... "I told you so"... I said Diddy would (and should) get off...... its great to see common sense finally shine through the match committee.... Its even funnier to hear all the whiners moaning about the decision...... (Yes I'm talking about you Robert Walls....). Bring on the Kangaroo's on Sunday as we make our push for the top four. Other news regarding Travis Cloke, he is so far only listed as a shoulder injury and out for one week, which would see him back for finals (other rumours concerning Dale Thomas and Leon Davis is that they are back in training and could also be back for finals)... so all you Magpies fans.... keep those fingers and toes crossed......  (which is more than what Daniel Chick can do.... ha ha)....

28th August
Well I'm back from Sydney and have to say it's great to be back in a Footy state, Footy in Sydney is about as popular as Darryl Hair at a Pakistani Cricket Convention. So its good to be back.... dunno how much more of that NRL stuff I could have taken. A great win at on Sunday over the old enemies Carlscum.... a magnificent 2nd quarter display saw the mighty Pies set up a 44 point win over the struggling Blues. The only downsides to the game were Travis Clokes shoulder injury and Diddy's report.... If anyone thinks he should be rubbed out for that, we'll they are either a Carlton fan or an Umpire.... In either case I feel sorry for them. It was a fair bump, the elbow was never raised and Diddys eyes never left the ball. We shall see anyway... He'll probably get two weeks just for wearing Black and White.

Anyway onto other news, The Port Adelaide game saw our final Function for the regular season and received once again a great turnout. The Major Raffle was drawn and congratulations go out to all our winners, The winners were :-

1st Prize : Western Magpies Signed Bar Runner - Danielle O'Meara

2nd Prize : Golf Buggy - Matt Douse
