23rd June - Function this Saturday at the Quinn.
Hello
all, firstly I wanted to say thank you to everyone on all your messages
of congratulations to Mei and myslef on the birth of our beautiful son
(and heir to the Day millions) Lucas. Lucas Eli Day was born on
Wednesday 27th May and weighed in at a tiny 2.6kgs (5 pouns 12 ounces
in old money). Another Collingwood member has arrived and he has
already watched three wins in a row since his entry into the world :) This
also leads me to apologise for the lack of updates to the site over the
past few weeks, as you can understand things have been pretty hectic on
the home front and I just haven't been able to find the time to update
the site. Thanks to everyone that has been keeping everyone informed on
what is happening out there in Magpie land by using the "Shout Out"
box, its good to see it being put to good use. Now onto footy
business.....
The Western Magpies will be holding their next official function this Saturday at the Mighty Quinn for when the Pies take on Fremantle at the MCG. The function starts at 12pm, with bounce down at 12.10pm, hope everyone can make it down to the Quinn and cheer the boys on loudly as we push for our 5th win on the bounce. There will be the usual raffle and margin ticket competition, not to mention Western Magpies Merchandise, Morish Nuts merchandise and Weg-Art merchandise on sale. It promises to be a great afternoon of football so make sure you get yourselves down to the Quinn and watch the game with all your Collingwood family.
Finally I will shortly have the latest radio shows up on the site and the latest highlight packages. I am hoping to get all that done today. More news once its all up. Go Pies !!!!

If you missed this Saturday's show you can listen to it here.
1st April - Saturdays game on a hour delay.
As
I mentioned at Saturdays function this weeks game will be shown with an
hours delay due to Daylight Savings still being in place in Victoria.
The game actually starts at 11.10am over here, but will not be
televised until 12pm. We are still holding a function however and hope
that everyone can make it down to the Quinn to watch the Pies bounce
back from their disappointing performance last week by spanking the
Demons. I am still waiting for verification as to what time the ANZAC
Day game is being played as there are conflicting times coming from the
AFL website, the Collingwood Website and every other website in
between, as soon as I find out for definate... it'll be up on here.
26th March - The Seasons nearly here, sign up for the Tipping Comp !!!!.
Only
two more sleeps till our first function of 2009, The Pies will be
taking on the Crows at the MCG on Saturday and it promises to be a
great game. The possibility of debuting Dayne Beams and Steele
Sidebottom is a very exciting prospect for Pies fans, plus it will be
Nick Maxwell's first full game as Collingwood Captain. Adelaide on the
otherhand have been hit with a few injuries, the birdman is not due
back till later in the season, while Graham Johncock will miss due to
the death of is mother. So a great game to open the Pies season, I'm
tipping the boys to notch up a victory in round round. Pies by 21 pts.
Our function starts at 12pm at the Mighty Quinn with the game starting at 12.10pm, so come along and enjoy the company of other Pies supporters.
Finally there are still spaces available in the Western Magpies Tipping Competiton, if you are interested in signing up then go to this link. The competition is being run through Collingwood and there are prizes available for the overall winners (see the Collingwood website for more details). Sign up and tip, the more the merrier... Good Luck !!!!
1st March - Western Magpies Supercoach is back for 2009 !!!!!!
Its
back again for 2009, the Western Magpies Supercoach league is up and
running again. If you wanna sign up and pit your coaching skills
against other Western Magpies members then goto http://supercoach.heraldsun.com.au register
yourself and a team and when asked for a league number enter 401032.
No prizes this year, just bragging rights but its always fun to know if
you are the next Jock McHale :) Good Luck !!!
17th February - The Western Magpies, Proud Sponsors of Harry O'Brien !!!!!!
This
year as part of Collingwood's new stipulations for Supporter Groups the
Western Magpies have chosen to sponsor a player. After much discussion
it was decided that, being a WA based supporter group we should sponsor
a WA player. So we have sponsored a supporter group favourite WA's very
own Harry O'Brien. We are very excited to have to opportunity to
sponsor Harry and it is a first for the Western Magpies. So there is
now another reason to cheer on Harry when the Pies play... he is now a
Western Magpie too !!!
16th February - 2009 Function list is here !!!!!!
We
have set up the function list for 2009's official Western Magpies
functions to be held at the Mighty Quinn this year. All functions will
be subject to the game being televised live of course, but more details
will be posted closer to the date of the function in question. There
will also more than likely be a few "un-official" functions this year
as well (such as the Queens Birthday game etc) again more details of
this as the year progresses. Finally depending on how well the Pies do
in the NAB cup we will more than likely have a couple of functions
during the NAB cup, again though it will depend on whether or not the
games are televised live. We hope to see you all throughout the season.
Round Date Pies VS

2 Saturday 4th April Melbourne (D)

15th February - We welcome a new committee member and say farewell to two !!!!!!
The
Western Magpies would like to welcome on board new Committee Member
Jackie Breasley. Jackie has been a regular at Western Magpies functions
for the last few years now and she also was a regular on the Radio Show
last year. So welcome Jackie !!!
We also say farewell to two of out long standing Committee members who have both been on board since the inception of the Western Magpies. Krystal Keating leaves us this year and we would like to thank her for all her hard work over the last 4 years. We will still see her and little Eva at functions however.
Finally as you already know Mei has left the Committee as she takes on an even bigger role of mum to our our new June arrival. Again Mei will still be at functions (at least until May time anyway)
I'm sure you will all join me in welcoming Jackie and saying a huge thank you to both Krystal and Mei.
6th January - HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!
HAPPY
NEW YEAR everyone, welcome to 2009, The Year of the Magpie. We can look
forward to an interesting season this year with some exciting recruits
and a new captain (Well done Maxy). The Magpies come over to Perth
twice this year firstly in February for round one of the NAB Cup versus
the Weagles and then again in May when they take on the Weagles for a
second time.
We have already recieved a few phone calls regarding the purchase of tickets for the NAB Cup game and we have to point out that all tickets must be purchased through Ticketmaster, the Western Magpies have no access to tickets for this game. This will also more than likely be the case for the May game as well (but we will have more details on that later on this year).
All memberships this year will once again be done through Collingwood themselves, although the details are kind of sketchy at the moment, there will be more on this in the next few weeks.
Finally I have to announce some good news, My wife (and of course committe member) Mei is pregnant and is due in June (June 9th to be precise) so there will soon be another little Collingwood Member added to the nest. As a result of this however Mei will be stepping down from the committee and will not be attending so many functions in 2009 although she will still be around and will be helping out when she gets the time. I'm sure you will join me in saying thanks to Mei for all her hard work over the past 4 years as now she takes on an even bigger role of mum to be.
As soon as we have more news from Collingwood with regards to memberships etc I will add them to the site, in the meantime once again I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and wish you all a very happy and prosperous 2009. Go the Pies !!!!!!
20th October - Keiran Butlers "Collingwood Ruined My Life" coming to Perth in November
Collingwood
supporter and Comedian Kieran Butler is bringing his famous
"Collingwood Ruined my Life" show to Perth in November. There are three
shows on the 13th, 14th and 15th of November at the Subiaco Community
Centre, Bagshot Road. If you are interested in booking tickets (and why
wouldn't you be !!!), Kieran has provided us with a link to his site in
which you can purchase the tickets at a $1 discount and with NO booking fee, so a saving of around $8 per booking. BOOK NOW.
2nd September - Some photos from Friday - More to come !!!!!!
Disappointing result, but fun was still had by everyone... here are a couple of photos from Friday, more to follow !!!

27th August - PRE-GAME DRINKS AT THE VIC HOTEL!!!!!!

Hey

Quinn on Saturday straight after the auction. The game starts at
5.10pm, with the auction starting at 3.30pm. Hope to see everyone there
20th August - Next function - Round 21 v Swans, plus all the Auction news!!
This
weekend will be the Western Magpies last official function for the Home

confirmed (the game is being shown at 6.30pm, but I am trying to
explore other avenues to get the game earlier), I will know for
definate either this evening or tomorrow morning, as soon as I know for
definate I will have the news up on here, so keep em peeled and keep
checking the site.
Now before the game itself we are holding our annual auction, the auction will start at around 3.30pm and we have some fantastic items up for bidding, we can now let you know exactly what we have up for grabs on the day. They are :-

14th July - Next function - Round 17 v Bombers, plus news on Roo's game!!
I
have checked the TV schedules and you'll all be pleased to know that
the Pies / Bombers game in Round 17 will be televised LIVE on Channel
10 on Saturday 26th July, that means that the Western Magpies WILL be
having a function that day (The West Coast game is being shown on FOX).
The function will start at 12pm with the game starting at 12.10pm,
hoping to see everyone down there.
Before that we play the Roo's this Friday night and if anyone wants to watch the game at the earlier time of 6.30pm this Friday night head down to the Inglewood Hotel (Beaufort Street) as they will be showing the game from 6.30pm (about a 40 minute delay). There will be a few of us down there. Finally the latest Pies highlights (Sydney and Adelaide) are up in the "Videos" section and the latest "Magpie Radio" is available to listen to in the "Previous Shows" section.
IMPORTANT !! 4th July - Pies/Sydney game is no longer Live on Saturday !!
Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control the Pies / Sydney game on Saturday night will NOT be
shown live at the Mighty Quinn, instead the game will be shown at the
normal WA time of 6.30pm. The function will now start at 6pm. We would
like to apologise for this unfortunate change, but as stated it was
beyond our control. We still hope to see people at the Quinn cheering
the boys on, just make sure you avoid those scores.
24th June - Great news for the Sydney Game and news on the Auction !!
Our
next function is on the 5th July when the Pies take on Sydney in the
annual blockbuster at ANZ Stadium. We have some great news for our
Western Magpies, we will be getting the game LIVE at the mighty Quinn, yes LIVE not
with a 90 minute delay (which normal WA TV will be doing - Western
Australia at its finest). So make sure you get to the Quinn early and
get yourself a good seat, it promises to be a big turnout. We hope to
see you all there in what should be a rip-snorter of a game.
We also would like to announce our other great news, The Western Magpies have set the date for their annual auction. It will take place on Saturday 23rd August (Rnd 21) before the Collingwood / Sydney return game at the home of the Western Magpies, The Mighty Quinn. The Auction will start at 3.30pm and run for approximately an hour. We have some absolutely fantastic stuff up for grabs this year (A list of the items up for auction will be added to the website soon - so start saving those pennies !!). We are also hoping to arrange to have some special guests at the Quinn on the day (we are working on this at the moment). Following the auction we will have the Collingwood game on from 5.30pm. So come along, Its going to be a cracking day !!
16th June - New Video section added to website !!
I
have added a video section to the website where you can look at
Collingwood highlights and other related Collingwood material. I will
be added various videos to the site when I find them. At the moment I
have the highlights from all seven of our wins for 2008 (not gonna
bother sticking any losses on there, what would be the point...lol). I
will be updating this section constantly, so keep checking it, as there
will always be something new on there. Any feedback on this new feature
would be most appreciated. Just bear in mind that you will need to have
the most up to date version of flash on your PC to be able to view the
videos.
In addition I just wanted to thank everyone for coming down to the Quinn yesterday for the Pies / Blues function, we had a great turnout (despite the weather being awful), it was just unfortunate that the boys couldn't win the game. I'm not even gonna get started talking about the umpiring, I'll just get all angry again. Next week the boys take on the Doggies at Telstra Dome, lets hope they can bounce back and have a big win.
4th June - 100 reasons to be happy !!! A fantastic win over West Coast !!
It
was a great day on Saturday 100 reasons to be happy for all WA based
Magpie fans !!! I wanted to thank everyone who came to the function on
Saturday and hopefully had a great time. Another big thank you goes out
to the committee and Vice President Pete Matheson who ran the show,
while myself and Mei were in Melbourne at the game. Here are a couple
of photos that were taken Saturday... on a memorable, enjoyable and
unforgettable day.

I think I found Benny

The famous sign makes its journey to the 'G'

Sweetness... 100 wonderful points !!
20th May - Interstate Membership form now online.
Its only taken 8 rounds
but the membership forms for the interstate supporter group memberships are now available for download from here.
Please download the form, fill it out and then forward on to
Collingwood. Please be aware the form is quite large and may take a few
minutes to download if you are on dial-up.
1st May - See the Pies / Hawks game LIVE at the Quinn on Saturday.
Just
a quick note to let anyone know that if they want to watch the
Pies/Hawks game wih like minded Pies fans this Saturday there will be a
few of us at the Quinn this Saturday. Feel free to come along and cheer
the boys on. Game starts at 12.10pm, Its not an official function so
there'll be no raffle or anything, just a bunch of Pies supporters
cheering loudly, there will be some committee member there however.
Hopefully see you all there.
24th April - LEST WE FORGET - ANZAC DAY Function
Tomorrow
will see the Pies take on the Bombers in the annual ANZAC Day clash, a
game which is second only in importance to the Grand Final. The Western
Magpies will be holding their annual ANZAC Day function at the Mighty
Quinn and the day will start from 11.30am. Remember to get to the Quinn
early as it promises to be a very busy day and unfortunately tables are
not able to be reserved. The Western Magpies would also like to invite
any ex-serviceman down to the Quinn, so if you know of any please
invite them down so we can share this very special day with them.
There will be a raffle held as usual with some fantastic prizes up for grabs and once again Ralph O'Brien and the O'Brien family will be attending the function. Ralph will be selling raffle tickets for the signed and framed Nathan Buckley jumper and this will be the last function that they will be on sale at.
Obviously the football is a big part of the day tomorrow, but let us not forget the reason we are celebrating. The Ex-Serviceman, they are the reason that we can sit there at the Quinn tomorrow and cheer on our beloved Pies, they fought for our freedom and our way of life as we know it today The Western Magpies would like to thank each and every one of them for their sacrifice. So everyone, please come down to the Quinn tomorrow, watch the game, cheer on the boys but also say thanks and a prayer to all those that gave up their lives in the fight for freedom.
15th April - Short notice function - Round 5 versus the Roo's !!.
Hey
all, just a notice to let everyone know that we will be having a
fucntion for the Kangaroos game this Saturday, the function will start
at 5pm and the game starts at 5.30pm. Hopefully see everyone down there.
30th March - Round 4 Carlton Function CANCELLED, Next Function is now Round 3 versus Richmond !!.
Due
to the fact the WA TV has once again stuffed their heads up their
backsides, by not televising the Pies / Carlton game on Sunday 13th
April, we have cancelled the function for that day. Instead we have
brought the function forward a week to Round 3 (thats THIS WEEKEND
guys) for the Pies / Richmond game. So please pass this info onto as
many people as you can find (if you know of people who do not have
internet access for example). Hopefully we can get a big turnout and
watch the boys bounce back for our disappointing loss to the Brions on
Friday night.
17th March - Merchandise Sale at our Function this Saturday plus Footy Tipping Comp is BACK !!.
The
Western Magpies will be having a clearout sale on their merchandise. We
will be selling all Western Magpies merchandise at half price, that
means Stubby Holders for $5, Caps $10, Shirts $25 (Kids Shirts
$20), Bar Runners $25 etc. This sale will take place this Saturday
during the Pies / Freo function, so make sure you come down to the
function and pick yourself up a bargain. Looking forward to seeing
everyone at our first function of the 2008 season.
Also... The Footy Tipping is BACK this season !!!!! With once again prizes up for grabs at the end of the year just go to http://supertipping.heraldsun.com.au/ and register to the tipping competition and once you've registered just enter league code 938569 and join the tipping comp. Good Luck !!!!
13th March - News on memberships for 2008.
We
have recieved a few calls enquiring about Western Magpies memberships
for 2008. Currently the club has not updated their website with the
details of the new memberships, but should be done shortly. In the
meantime please bear with us and Collingwood while this is sorted out.
Many people in WA have already signed up to Collingwood for 2008, in this situation if you provide your membership number to us, we will contact the club and they will mark off on their records that you are a Western Magpies member. So to re-iterate, if you have already signed up, please contact us with your membership details and we will pass them onto the club.
Finally if you do sign up with the club, please mention on your membership application that you wish to be part of the Western Magpies (or were nominated by us), this will ensure that you will be on our mailing list for our newsletters etc.
If you have any questions with regards to this, please do not hesitate to give a committee member a call and we'll endevour to help.
12th March - Supercoach is now up and running for 2008 - click on link below to sign up.
Hi all, the Supercoach has been set up again for this year, just go to http://supercoach.heraldsun.com.au/ and enter LEAGUE CODE - 952244 after you have signed up. Good Luck !!

For Details go to the MEMBERSHIP page
10th February - Western Magpies a new Committee a new Era.
The
Western Magpies would like to thank everyone that attended their third
Annual General Meeting last night. The meeting saw changes to the
Western Magpies structure and to the Committee. Firstly we say farewell
to former President David Foreman, Secretary Danielle O'Meara and
Committee member Colleen Bentley and thank them for all their hard work
that they have put in over the last three years. Secondly we would like
to welcome our New Committee members to the Western Magpie family, a
big hello to Kerryn Prosser (Secretary), Vicki Turner (Committee), Ian
Hale (Committee - Sponsorship and Media), Rod Currie (Committee) and
Wayne Turner (Treasurer) all of whom are regular faces at our functions
and I'm sure will be known to a majority of you. Finally a big thank
you to our Committee members that have stayed on for another term under
the Western Magpies, namely Krystal Keating (Committee) and Mei-Ling
Day (Committee - Newsletter). Both Pete Matheson and myself have also
stayed on for another year and the voting last night decided that the
Presidents position would be taken by myself while Pete would become
the sole Vice President. Thanks to all that voted and put through the
nominations, the entire committee will be working hard during the 2008
season to make this the most successful year for the Western Magpies so
far.
There will be one major change this year and that will be with the membership costs. We are reducing the cost of membership to just $10 for 2008, this will get you membership to the Western Magpies and we are working on a small pack to give to our members (more on this as we have more details). As with previous years anyone with a Collingwood membership priced at $125 or above (The interstate membership) will recieve free membership to the Western Magpies, however we do insist that you still fill out a membership form (so we have your address details etc) and proof of membership (i.e. Card, reciept etc) will need to be sighted.
Numberplate enquiries for 2008 will all be handled by Pete Matheson, so if you are interested in numberplates please call Pete on 0400 178 477. Prices for 2008 are yet to be finalised however, so please bear with us on this. Secondly all those people who have orders in currently for numberplates, we are still waiting on the plate manufacturer, they have ensured us that plates are now beginning to be sent out, but your patience is appreciated. We are hoping this year to work out a better system with the Plate manufacturer, the AFL and the DPI to try to reduce the wait time of numberplates.
Finally thanks to everyone who turned up at the Quinn last night to watch the Pies/Crows game, we had a great turnout and it was good to see so many familiar (and some new) faces. Unfortunately the Pies came up around 80 points short on the night, but I really dont think anyone was too bothered by the result. In case people are interested, the Pies will now be set to play the loser of the Wet Toast/Freo game in Albany in a couple of weeks time, so if anyones down Albany way, head to Collingwood Park to watch the Pies. More details on this as we know them.
2008 is a brand new year for both Collingwood and the Western Magpies and we hoping hoping it will be our most successful year so far... Keep it Black and White and Carn the Pies !!!!!
In addition to this news we have made a couple of changes to the function list, The Round 12 game against Carlton has been added to the list, while the Round 19 game against St Kilda has been listed as "depending on TV" due to the fact that the game clashes with a Wet Toast game. Function lists will also be available at the Quinn on Saturday.
Finally here's a picture of the famous Such is Life sign that got such a huge response following the Eagles game... well worth every minute that I spent making it... lol
Obviously now that the Pies/Cats game is a sell out on Friday night, Channel 7 are showing the game live everywhere.... everywhere, that is except WA !!!! We urge people to get in contact with Channel Seven Perth and state the case for showing the game live, especially as on of the top bods from the station appeared on 6PR last Friday and stated that no matter whether who went through from last weeks game, this weeks game WILL be shown live due to contract obligations. It appears that Channel 7 only honour their obligations whilst the Eagles are still in the competition. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE email Channel Seven at programs@7perth.com.au or call them on 9344-0777 and complain, complain, complain. The squeakiest door gets the most oil so the more of us that contact them, the more chance we'll have of getting it live. Good Luck...
Obviously is this does work the timings for the function would be moved an hour forward, i.e. function starting at 4.30pm, game starting at 5.30pm. Either way we hope to see everyone there on the day, our biggest day since 2003 !!!
18th September - R.I.P. LEN THOMPSON 1947-2007
It is with great sadness that we annouce the passing of Magpie Legend and former Brownlow winner Len Thompson. Len died this morning at is home from a heart attack. The Western Magpies would like to pass on their sympathies to Len's family.
17th September - A PIE IN THE HOUSE OF PAIN (HERALD SUN ARTICLE)
In todays Herald Sun, Journalist Terry Brown who flew over exclusively to speak with the Western Magpies and report on the game has an article all about what it was like sitting amongst the Collingwood Cheer Squad on Friday night. It is a brilliant piece of writing and I urge you all to go to this link and read the story. I'm sure you'll find it as enjoyable as myself !!!!
16th September - PIES DOWN EAGLES - WHAT A GAME !!!!!!
A fantastic night at Subiaco on Firday saw the Pies end Wet Toasts season after beating them 93-74 after extra time. It was a fantasic game and a fantastic day, which all started when the Magpie Army took over the VIC hotel (normally a Weagles haunt), it was great to see Eagles fans walk in.. look around see the place dominated by Black and White and then walk straight back out again. The "Where's Benny" sign was popular again with thousands of Weagles fans as it came out while I walked the boundary line after banner. However I think the sign that got the most publicity was my "Such is Life" sign which was broadcast for all to see on Channel 7 at the end of the game. Well done to everyone guys, we were loud and proud and we got the boys over the line, special Kudos goes out to Steve Pang and co. for their great DIIIIIDAK sign !!!!! The photo below was on the back page of the Herald Sun today and I think it says it all...... BRING ON THE PUSSIES !!!!!

Mei, Myself, Kathy, Joffa, Rose and Courtney at the final siren.
13th September - PIES FLIGHT AND TRAINING TIMES !!!!!!

All Pies fans that are going to the game Friday night, the Western Magpies will all be meeting up at the VIC Hotel on Hay Street before the game. We encourage all Collingwood supporters to do likewise, lets turn that Pub into a Magpie stronghold !!! We will all be at the VIC from around 3pm onwards (What better Hotel for Pies fans to meet up at eh... The VIC !!!). So everyone, meet up at the main bar in the VIC and we can have a few coldies before the game. As usual just contact a committee member if you require more info.
Training will be held at Subiaco Oval from 4.30pm on Thursday 13th September. Collingwood have still yet to confirm their flight details but I would presume that they will be flying in on the 12pm (ish) Qantas flight from Melbourne on the Thursday. More details as they are known.
9th September - FINALS FEVER PART 2 !!! THE PIES ARE COMING TO PERTH !!!!!!
Following last nights fantastic 38 point win over Sydney, The Pies have earned a semi final matchup against the Eagles at Subiaco this Friday night. We have some very important ticket information with regards to this game. Currently the Western Magpies have not been allocated any tickets for this game, however the Committee are working on this and will be in contact with the club first thing Monday morning, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep an eye on this website, because as soon as we know something it will be posted on here.
In the meantime, tickets will go on sale from Tickmaster tomorrow morning (Monday) from 9am FOR COLLINGWOOD MEMBERS ONLY. Collingwood members will be able to purchase 1 ticket per membership, with a max of 8 tickets purchased in 1 transaction. The tickets will be priced between $51.90 and $66.00 depending on where they are seated. People buying tickets from Ticketmaster please ensure you ask for tickets IN THE COLLINGWOOD ALLOCATION to ensure you will be sitting with Collingwood supporters and not uneducated moronic Eagles supporters. For non Collingwood members the rest of the tickets will go on sale to the General Public from 9am on WEDNESDAY morning.
As mentioned before, The Western Magpies WILL be in contact with the club on Monday, but in the event that we have no success in acquiring tickets via them, we urge people to ensure that they look into the above means to get tickets.
Also the Western Magpies would like to thank everyone who came down to the Quinn last night and made our first finals function of 2007 such a great success. Over a 150 Magpie mad fans came down and cheered the boys on to a rousing victory. Congratulations go out to all our Major Raffle winners, especially Percy Dias who won the Signed and Framed 2007 jumper and Matt Douse who won the Signed and Framed Dale Thomas print. Both guys have been Die-Hard Western Magpies members since our inception and it was great to see them finally win something in the raffles.
