Tempers started to boil when Collingwood's Brodie Holland was assisted from the field with blood pouring out of his nose following a behind-the-play incident. The clash was not picked up by the television cameras or the bulk of the 54,500 strong crowd but Collingwood skipper Nathan Buckley immediately remonstrated with Carlton wingman Scott Camporeale with their toe-to-toe altercation proving the forerunner to the fireworks at half-time. The half-time altercation was about the only time this dull game came to life but thankfully the continual courage of Scott Burns, the class of Nathan Buckley, the rapid improvement of Brodie Holland and the marking and skill of Chris Tarrant kept the pro-Collingwood crowd entertained.
