WESTERN MAGPIES NEWS

19th July 2010 - Two big weeks at the BoB.
Well we've just knocked off the Saints and are now sitting on top of the ladder, but the Pies have another two big Saturday afternoon games coming up, firstly against the Tigers and then against the old enemy the Blues. The Western Magpies have functions for both of these games, both starting at 12pm. After the Carlton game we will by holding the Western Magpies annual auction and once again we will have some great stuff up for grabs (more on this soon). We hope to see everyone at the BoB for our next two functions.

Secondly the Western Magpies membership packs will be sent out very shortly, we have just received the packs from Collingwood themselves and (are just waiting for the keyrings to arrive). Once we have it all together the packs will be sent out.

Finally with Pete Matheson moving over to Melbourne all numberplate enquiries will now be handled by Kerryn Prosser, whilst any enquires regarding WEG art items can be made to Rod Currie.

10th June 2010 - Western Magpies Newsletter emailed out.
You should have by now recieved an email from Collingwood (if you have your email address registered with Collingwood or the Western Magpies) with a link to the new Western Magpies newsletter "We are Black, We are White". Some people have mentioned that they were unable to open the newsletter so I have uploaded the newsletter onto the website for you all to be able to view. Click here to view the newsletter.

We are currently STILL waiting on the supporter group packs from Collingwood, we have been in contact with the club and it is due to problems with the supplier. The club are putting pressure on them and we hope to have something in the next week or so. Thanks for your patience in this matter.

Our next Western Magpies function will be for the Round 14 clash versus West Coast, this game will be televised live at 5pm on Saturday 3rd July, we hope to see a great turnout at the BoB for what should be a fantastic game.

18th April 2010 - Our big ANZAC Day Function this Sunday.

Its that time of year again the biggest event of the home and away season (apart from the GF of course) but bigger in the sense that the Pies get to play in it every year, of course I am talking about the massive ANZAC Day clash between Collingwood and Essendon. The Western Magpies will be holding their annual ANZAC Day function at The BoB and we urge people to get there early to ensure you get a good seat as it is sure to be a busy afternoon at the Basement on Broadway. If you haven't already picked up your Western Magpies BoB discount card then make sure you do so at the function. Please remember to bring your CFC membership card with you so you can get your discount card though (or if you have signed up with the Western Magpies we will just need your name and address so we can crosscheck with our member records). Finally The Western Magpies would like to honour any Veterans that come down to the BoB wearing their medals by giving them a BoB discount card to use at the ANZAC Day function. We hope to see everyone on the day cheering the pies on to a big payback victory over the Bombers.

13th April 2010 - Round 6 function Cancelled, Round 14 function added !!!.
Once again we have been forced to cancel a function due to Channel Seven not televising a game. This time its our round 6 function versus Carlton. There is some good news however as we have added the Round 14 game versus West Coast to our official function list. In the mean time we look forward to seeing everyone at the BoB on ANZAC day for our biggest function of the year.

30th March 2010 - Great win by Pies, Our first function THIS weekend !!!.
Firstly what a fantastic win by the Pies over the Premiership favourites on Sunday, 4 Goals from Medhurst and Didak and 3 from both Swan and Davis led the Pies to a 36 point win over the Doggies. Things are looking good already in Magpieland.

This weekend will see our first official function of the year to be held at our new nest The Basement on Broadway when the Pies will take on the Dees. The function starts at 11am so we hope to see everyone there in full voice. We will also have the Western Magpie Discount Card to hand out to all Collingwood and Western Magpies members, these entitle you to 10% discount off of food and drink at the Basement when at our functions. To get one of these cards you will need to show your CFC membership card (if you are a Collingwood member), if you are a Western Magpies member we will mark you off against the membership list we have. So please don't forget your CFC membership card, we will not be able to provide you with a discount card if you do not have your CFC membership card with you.

As normal we will be holding a raffle and margin competition and will also be raffling off two 3 game passes for the 2010 season (These are for Collingwood home games in Melbourne - not the Dockers game). So there are plenty of reasons for everyone to head to The BoB this Saturday to cheer the Pies on against the Demons.

Finally a word on Western Magpies membership packs, we are still currently waiting on the supporter group packs from Collingwood, as soon as we have received them from the club they will then be sent out to everyone who has signed up

24th March 2010 - ROUND 1 FUNCTION CANCELLED !!!.
Due to Channel Seven not televising the Pies / Doggies game this weekend we have unortunately had to cancel our function. We apologise for this but unfortunately the decision was made for us by Channel Seven. Our next function will be Round 2 versus the Demons. We will look into adding an extra function during the season to make up for this game.

17th March 2010 - "Our" Harry a leader.
Great news yesterday as our very own Harry O'Brien was named as part of the Collingwood Leadership Group, along with gun recruit Darren Jolly and Heath Shaw. The Western Magpies would like to offer Harry, Darren and Heath our congratulations on making the leadership group. Well done...  a flag in 2010 seems even closer now.

The season is nearing its start and we urge all our members not to forget our Round 1 function at "The BoB" on Sunday March 28th when we take on Pre-Season Premiers the Western Bulldogs and their new addition, Big Bad Bazza. The Pies had a big win in their practice match against Port Adelaide in Mount Gambier, smashing the power by 81 points. Kicking 27 goals 16 behinds (an improvment on the previous weeks 24 behinds - 13 in the last term). New recruit Luke Ball led the scorers along Western Magpie favourite Jack Anthony with 3 goals, Tarkyn Lockyer, Paul Medhurst and Dale Thomas all chipped in with 2 goals. Great signs... now bring on the real stuff. See you all at "The BoB" for round 1.

24th February 2010 - A new sponsor and discount at The Bob at our Functions in 2010.
We are pleased to announce that Gartelmann Hunter Valley Wines have come on board as a sponsor for the 2010 season. As part of being a sponsor Gartelmann's are offering all Collingwood members 20% discount off their retail prices. You can view their great choice of wines by either visiting their website, or by downloading their pricelist. We will also be able to take orders at our functions. Why choose a Hunter Valley Winery as a sponsor I hear you all say, well when you see their logo I think the answer becomes apparent, not only that I have tried several of their wines and can safely say that they are a fantastic drop.

We have also agreed the discount with The Bob, all Western Magpies members will be provided with a "The Basement - Collingwood Supporters Club" card and this will provide you with 10% discount off all purchases over the bar, both food and drink. If you sign up with the Western Magpies then you card will be mailed out to you with the Supporter pack, if you are a Collingwood member then you will be able to pick them up from a committee member. We are hoping to have them available in time for our Family Day on March 7th. To be entitled to a card you will need to be a fully paid up member of either Collingwood or the Western Magpies and you will need to present your 2010 membership card as proof of membership. We will have more details on this shortly once the cards have been made available.

22nd February 2010 - Announcing a new Magpies nest for 2010.

It gives the Western Magpies great pleasure to announce its new home for the 2010 season. The Basement on Broadway (or The Bob as it is known) will be our new "nest" from Round One this season. The Bob is located in the Broadway Fair Shopping centre on Broadway in Nedlands. The Bob has a great range of beers and spirits and a great menu with very reasonable prices. In addition the Western Magpies are currently in the process of arranging discount with The Bob for all Western Magpies members. We will have more on this once that has been finalised. In the meantime if you find yourself in the area feel free to pop into The Bob and sample the wares.

We have also finalised out function list for the 2010 season and will once again be having only day functions (due to the TV coverage in WA). Our first official function of the 2010 season will be the Round 1 game against the Western Bulldogs, due to daylight savings (or the lack there-of in WA) the game actually starts at 11.10am Perth time, we will just need to confirm whether or not the TV are showing it live or with an hour delay. Our full list of functions
are as follows :-

Round 1 - Sunday 28th March - Western Bulldogs - 11.10am (Day light Saving)

Round 2 - Saturday 3rd April - Melbourne- 11.10am (Day light Saving)

Round 5 - Sunday 25th April - Essendon- 12.40pm - ANZAC Day

Round 6 - Sunday 2nd May - Carlton - 12.10 pm

Round 11 - Sunday 6th June - Western Bulldogs - 12.10 pm

Round 16 - Saturday 17th July - St Kilda - 12.10 pm

Round 17 - Saturday 24th July - Richmond - 12.10 pm

Round 18 - Saturday 31st July - Carlton - 12.10 pm  (Annual Auction to follow game)

This list can also be found on our functions page on this website.

18th February 2010 - Ball, Jolly and Buckley named in Pies squad for Friday nights clash versus Saints.
All three of Collingwood's big recruits have been named in Fridays squad to take on St Kilda at the Dome. It promises to be a great clash and with St Kilda leaving out some big names we should be going in favourites. It will be exciting to see how the 2010 Pies go. My tip - Look out Saints, here come the Pies - Collingwood by
28.
StK v COL

16th February 2010 - Western Magpies memberships now available

The membership packs and prices have been finalised for 2010 and we are pleased to announce that prices will remain the same as last year. Adult memberships have been kept at $15.00, Kids memberships are still $10.00 and family memberships remain at $45.00. The membership packs will include a Supporter Group keyring and sticker, plus a Collingwood 2010 Fixture Fridge Magnet and other Western Magpies related items. To sign up please fill out a membership application and send to the address on the form. The form can be downloaded here.

Please note there will not be a Western Magpies Function for this Fridays NAB Cup game due to the game not being shown until 8.30pm and most pubs now not televising games via the NT link (many pubs received or were threatened with large fines last year for showing the games in this manner). Depending on Fridays result there may be a get together the following Saturday (27th February) to watch the Pies take on Carlton or Sydney. Keep checking this site for details.

3rd February 2010 - A New Year, A new logo and a new website - Family Day coming up - Player sponsors announced for 2010, Harry O'Brien and Brad DIck
Happy new year everyone, well as you can see the website has had its overhaul and more additions to the site will be added soon. I have attempted to make the site look a bit tidier and more professional looking, I hope I have succeeded. In addition to this the Western Magpies have decided to adopt a new logo and after throwing a few ideas around came up with this one. We wanted to have a logo that "said" Western Australia (and figured a magpie sitting on top of the Bell Tower would just look silly). We feel that the logo does give us a better sense of identity, we hope you all like it. Look out for some new Western Magpies merchandise coming later in the year.

The committee have also finalised the date and location for our 2010 Family and Information day. This will be held at Hyde Park (The park NOT the Hotel) on Vincent Street on Sunday March 7th from 1pm to 3pm. There will be a sausage sizzle and a chance to get together as a group before the proper home and away season starts. All members will also be able to view the Western Magpies financial reports for 2009 and will be advised of the plans for the supporter group for 2010. On advice from the Collingwood Football Club the Western Magpies will not be holding an AGM this year and the committee will be staying on in full
although we will be looking for a couple of volunteers to help out at functions in a non-committee role. We will be looking for expressions of interest for these at the family day and more information will be given then also.

Our first NAB cup game is being played on Friday 19th February, obviously with this being a Friday night game there will be no function, we will provide more information on Functions in the next week or so as we are still finalising our function list and our venue for the 2010 season. Watch this space though as we will have the info up very soon.

Finally 2010 looks to be a very exciting year for the Western Magpies we are pleased to have renewed our sponsorship of Harry O'Brien and have (hopefully - subject to availability) added a sponsorship of another fantastic WA export Brad Dick, we are hoping to have some close ties during the 2010 season with these two playersare working on seeing if we can make them available for a function at some point during the year, again as usual watch this space.

8th December 2009 - A Very Merry Christmas to all our members

On behalf of the entire Western Magpies committee I would like to wish you all a very merry christmas. The website will be undergoing some major changes over the next month or so, I will be giving it a complete overhaul. Also in the coming weeks details of our AGM and Family day will be provided to everyone, so watch this space. There may be occassions when the website will be unavailable due to the work that I will be doing on it, however I will try to keep this to a minimum.

Finally great news on a very successful draft and trade period for the Magpies, picking up Luke Ball, Darren Jolly and Simon Buckley (so nice to have another Buckley running around on the paddock), its been a while since I have been so excited about a trade period and with the pre-season and rookie draft still to come, things are looking good in Magpie land

Go The Pies !!!!!
